The After (The Dining Room)

23 05 2007

The centerpiece of the dining room was the cobalt blue art glass, however, I have to say my favorite thing is the lotus blossom chandelier. The chandelier has a romantic glow at night, and layered by the illuminated wall art it sets the perfect romantic environment to entertain.

Circut Wall Candle Holder – $149.00 – Crate and Barrel – adding a wonderful graphic element to the wall and the perfect find if you can’t afford art and are looking for a piece to fill a large wall.

The After (Living Room)

The thing that I love most about designing, whether it is a room in a clients home or a private party or event, it is an opportunity for me to explore who people are and what drives them. Each space is as unique as the person that lives there. I never know what may evolve becasue as I get to know the person various aspects of the design evolve and I feel the most important part of the design is the incorporation of items that are important to them (family heirlooms, portraits, favorite books, etc) and express who they are and what they believe in.

In the living room, the slipper chairs are upholstered in a straw fabric that is reminescent of the seashore. The remainder of the upholstered furniture is covered in neutral fabrics to allow the accessories to pop (pillows, seashells, books, etc.), and playing off of the dark painted walls (wall color = Benjamin Moore’s Texas Leather, appropriate for a woman relocating from Seattle to Houston).

Matching sisal rugs (again organic material) in an indigo blue coordinate two rooms that are seperate but open to one another so they feel as though they are the same room, making the space feel larger.

I loved the modern mirror (Z Gallerie) and the asian inspired chest (Pier 1).

After’s of the dining room to come….

Split This House – Sneak Peak

23 05 2007

I just finished taping a pilot for A & E called, Split This House. As you may infer, the premise of the show is actually something many people in the world can relate to…any guesses? I don’t want to give too much away because we are currently in post production and I want you to tune in when the show airs (stay tuned).

I co-host the show with Lee Snijders, whom many of you know from HGTV’s Design on a Dime (www.leesnijdersdesigns.com), and Screaming Flea Productions is producing the show. The entire crew was so great to work with, and it is such a blessing to be able to do what you love and are passionate about for a living. Although, I must say, working in 95 degree weather with 100% humidity and no air conditioning is not so glamorous! One day maybe I will make it to the level of having an air conditioned trailer. ;)

This picture is the living and dining room seperated by two columns. After pictures to come next….

I’m Finally on Google Video

21 05 2007

As I have said in my prior posts, I am a bit technically challenged but with the help of a friend I was able to post my most recent reel, the sizzle reel for Moore to Life, and the pilot of Moore to Life for others to view.

If you have 22 minutes check out Moore to Life. This is the pilot that I worked on with King 5 which aired in December and January. Many of you have asked what the status of the show is, and at this point I am waiting to find out if King 5 is going to pick up the show. If you would like to see another episode of Moore to Life I suggest calling or writing King 5 to let them know (206.448.5555 or King 5 Television, 333 Dexter Avenue North, Seattle, Washington, 98109).
To view Moore to Life see below:

If you have 4 minutes check out the sizzle reel for Moore to Life:

If you have 12 minutes check out my reel:

Thanks to everyone that has sent me emails and is out there cheering me on! I really appreciate the support, and stay posted to my blog for updates on when you might see Moore to Life on the air again.

An Afternoon with Carmindy

An Afternoon with Carmindy

Today I learned what not to wear on my face! I hung out and interviewed, Carmindy makeup artist to the stars and all around glam girl on TLC’s popular show What Not to Wear. She was in town promoting her new book release, The Five Minute Face (Harper Collins, $13.95 on Amazon). When I first heard I was going to do the interview I was skeptical. Can anyone really look “camera ready” in five minutes? Well, I was a witness, yes you can. I learned that it is time to spring clean my makeup drawer, and that is exactly what I am going to do this weekend.

I can’t reveal all of her secrets because I want you to watch the segment (to air next week, targeted for Wednesday on King 5 News on Kong). Let me just say, airbrush, highlight, and Q-Tip. A few key words to wet your appetite.

What I found refreshing about Carmindy is that her philosophy is very much like mine. She doesn’t talk about trying to purchase products that have empty guarantees, or false promises of Angelina Jolie’s lips, but her message is about embracing and focusing on your best features and highlighting those things…literally.

Three products I am going to buy tomorrow:

ERA Face by Classified ($55) online only at www.classifiedcosmetics.com

Benefit’s Eye Bright ($18) acts as a under eye concealer and a brightner

Fresh Satin Luster Shimmer ($45) www.fresh.com

You and Your Colon

The Colon

Originally uploaded by kelleylmoore.

You know that you are getting older when you begin to talk about your bodily functions with your friends openly. I had to have my first colonoscopy yesterday. I hestitaed about whether I would blog about my experience or not, but as your resident Lifestyle Expert I feel the need to let you in on my experience and share a tip or two that would have made my life easier if I had known before my exam. Like throwing a dinner party, paying attention to the detail will make your experience less stressful:

1. Timing: Make sure you take the first appointment available in the morning. i know that 6 a.m seems early to some of you, but when you are sipping chicken broth at 12 p.m. you will be sorry you didn’t get out of bed for the first appointment of the day.

When you are planning for the prep do not wait until the end of your day, if possible. Since I love to eat, I ate dinner and then had to wait 3-4 hours to begin the prep. I began the prep at 9:30 p.m. which meant that I was up all night. I’ll stop there. ;)

2. Prep: There is an alternative to the 4 liter prep! Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I had both forms of the prep. I can say that the 4L of “Golytly” doesn’t taste as bad as I expected but the volume is too much for anyone. The alternative is Fleet’s Phospho Soda. Although the volume is MUCH less, this tastes horrible. The up side is that you can mix it with a beverage of your choice…and no, Grey Goose does not count. My choice was rootbeer. Taking a sip of rootbeer between drinking the colonoscopy cocktail will make it a bit easier. If you are the “Golytly” type, chewing your favorite flavored gum between every 8 oz. dose makes the experience a bit easier.

3. The event: It is true that the worst part of this exam is the prep, so by the time you arrive to your scheduled appointment the hard part is over. At this point it is all about the warm blanket and then its lights out.

The test is invalualbe, when diagnosed early 90% of colorectal cancers are completely curable. For more information check out http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/colon-and-rectal.

There are many people that have impacted my life, however nobody has made a larger impact on my life than my father. As many of you know my father is in the late stages of lung cancer and my time left with him is short. Through the end of his life he is continuing to make an impact on me each day, teaching me lessons of courage, strength, humility, and love.

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and your support!

Mother”s Day is near…are you ready?

Me and My Mom

Originally uploaded by kelleylmoore.

Although I am an adult (some may argue) I still call my mom when my heart aches, or when I need someone to listen even though I know I might be wrong. Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate the women in our lives that love and nurture us every day. With Mother’s Day only five days away I thought I would share a few of my favorite ideas:

For the traveling mom:
How many times have you been in the security line at the airport and struggled to find your ticket and photo identification? With this modern travel wallet mom won’t have to stress any longer. The wristlet design makes it easy to hold, while your identification is in clear view, and it is the perfect size for passport and ticket. Available in a variety of spring colors and modern prints they are an ideal gift for spring!

For the mom who loves accessories:
I love any accessory, especially jewelry! In lieu of giving mom a new bobble this year create something for her to store her collection. Start by purchasing a Stainless Steel Magnetic Bulletin Board ($17.99) at the Container Store. While you are there visit the kitchen supply aisle and pick up a Five Canister Magnetic Spice Rack Refill ($4.99 for a set of three) and a Stainless Steel Magnetic Hook Rack ($9.99). The canisters are the ideal container for bracelets, and rings and the hook rack is perfect for mom’s necklaces. If you really want to get fancy use a set of Magnetic Poetry and personalize it.

For the mom who loves modern décor:
If your mom has a contemporary eye, these Wallter Paintable Wall Applications are a fabulous addition to any living space. They come with an adhesive backing so all mom will need to do is paint, peel, and stick to add a graphic element to any room. Enlarge a photo or two and place them within the application and mom will surely be pleased.

For the mom always on the go and in the car:
Everyone should have an emergency kit in the car, but every mom should have a customized kit just for her. Pick out your favorite colorful container (I love the Circle Fabric Tote Boxes from the Container Store $12.99) and then fill it with her favorite protein bar, snacks, miniature first aide kit, miniature nail kit ($1.99 at Fred Meyer), hand lotion, gum, mints, hand sanitizer, Cottonelle Wet Wipes, Shout Wipes, along with anything else that she might need in the car. Add a pink water bottle from Fred Meyer and mom will stay hydrated while 5% of the proceeds benefit breast cancer research. Add a whimsical set of blank notecards ($15.50 from the Paper Source) and a colorful small pen ($9.99 also from the Paper Source) and she will be ready to leave a stylish note at the drop of a hat.

For the working mom:
How many days has your mom packed your lunch in your lifetime? Surprise her and leave a lunch packed for her to take to work the Friday before Mother’s Day with a note letting her know that you are looking forward to spending time with her that Sunday. Forget the brown paper bag and pack her lunch in a stylish and colorful suitcase from the Paper Source ($12.00). Make lunch feel extra special by wrapping her sandwich in brown paper and tying it with a luxurious ribbon. Add a dishtowel trimmed in a coordinating ribbon. It just takes a second to stitch a ribbon to an ordinary dishtowel and mom will be impressed.

For the mom who loves to entertain:
Encourage mom to throw an impromtu party by creating a party in a box. Select a box or container that can double as a centerpiece or container for a flower arrangement. I love the selection of boxes at the Paper Source! Thinking about the color palette select ribbon that coordinates with the centerpiece. Wrap the ribbon around four luxurious hemstitched napkins and finish the napkin rings off with a brass buckle. Include a set of candlesticks and candles, and include place cards that coordinate as well. In a second mom’s table setting is complete.

For the mom that loves flowers:
Send mom something that she can share with the entire office. Edible Arrangements has a variety of fresh fruit arranged in fun containers and cute boxes. Unlike many arrangements I have received, this one not only looked amazing but the fruit taste great. My favorite are the Dipped Daisies ($25.00), they are adorable and who doesn’t love pineapple and chocolate!

The Inaugural Blog…I’m Finally Doing It!

8 05 2007

moore31.jpg

After many conversations with my friends, emails from viewers, and struggles to keep up with emails to update people on my trials and successes in my quest to make the Kelley Moore brand nationally known I have decided that it is time to begin my own blog.

Understand that I am not technologically inclined, and so as much as I would love this page to look and feel like my brand I am not that savvy yet. As I learn more I hope that this blog will morph in to something that looks consistent to the brand I am developing.

I hope you will check in and send me comments, advice, and tips. I see this as a chance to get to learn from you, as well as an opportunity to share with you. If you are out shopping and see something you think I should know about please send me a note. If you have a story idea or would like to see a segment on the morning show please let me know. I am always looking for new topics, ideas, and a way to inspire other people to entertain and explore their style.

I will also be posting video clips from my travels, tapings, and photo shoots.

Thanks for all of your continued support and for all of the fingers that are crossed out there in my quest to take Martha’s job! ;)
